Today

I never really blog about day to day things or without a lot of planning beforehand but I’ve had such a lovely day that I felt it needed to be documented. Today is June 13th and my birthday is in exactly a week and because I always spend my actual birthday with family, I had a pre birthday meal with three of my friends today (I did invite a few more but they could make it, unfortunately). I met all three in hospital and because I was transferred from the tier four unit we met at to HDU in January 2014, that’s the last time I saw E (I have seen my other two friends that came since being out of hospital but E was readmitted a few months ago which has made it very difficult for us to travel and see each other). I’m so happy that they all traveled to see me today but so especially happy that E was well enough and felt able to travel across London ALONE! I feel so grateful to be surrounded by not only a loving and supportive family but also an amazing, strong group of friends. Sometimes I worry that as none of us live near and don’t see each other for long periods of time, that it might be awkward when we meet up but it never is. I have five or six friends who all live over an hour away and I’d take them over two hundred friends that live two minutes away every time. There are a few quotes I’d like to share that I think sum up me and my friends perfectly.. “There is magic in long-distance friendships. They let you relate to other human beings in a way that goes beyond being physically together and is often more profound.” – Diana Cortes “I’ve learned that true friendship continues to grow, even over the longest distance.” – Unknown
